Warren David “Reggie” Rethwisch, age 66, of Frazee, MN, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, November 26, 2015, at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, December 4, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee, MN, with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Warren was born March 21, 1949, in Perham, MN, to John and Frieda (Illg) Rethwisch. He grew up in Silver Leaf Township, attending school in Frazee. He graduated from Frazee High School with the class of 1967. He went on to join the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Frazee where he enrolled in Law Enforcement Training at Alexandria Technical College. He began his career in law enforcement in his home town of Frazee. He then went to work for the Becker County Sheriff’s Office for the duration of his career. He served as the Becker County Sheriff from 2001 until his retirement in 2002. Following his retirement, Warren went to work for Nereson’s in Detroit Lakes, working at Wothe Bait and Tackle as well. He continued to work at Nereson’s until March of 2015.
Warren’s life was blessed with 5 children: Jennifer, Michelle, Tracy, Nathan and Patrick. On August 10, 2012, Warren married Carol Olson. With this union, Warren gained 3 step children: Jason, Nicci and Jordan.
Warren was an active member of the Detroit Lakes El Zagal Shine Color Guard and the Mount Tabor Masonic Lodge 106 Detroit Lakes. He loved to bowl and was a member of several bowling leagues and he bowled many tournaments. He loved to fish, year round, and during his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. He was also an avid NASCAR fan.
Warren was a kind and loving person who treasured the time he spent with his family. He had a great sense of humor with a quick wit and had a comeback for everything. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his wife, Carol Rethwisch of Frazee; 4 children: Jennifer (Donovan) Rusness of Detroit Lakes, Tracy (Garrett Tikkanen) Rethwisch of Detroit Lakes, Nathan Rethwisch of Detroit Lakes, and Patrick (Christopher) Fritz of Moorhead, MN; 3 step children: Jason Dukart of Fargo, ND, Nicci (Mike) Seifert of Lake Park, MN, and Jordan (Shelby) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; 1 grandson, Mason; 6 step grandchildren: Zechariah, Sammy, Jayden, Brady, Dalton, and Braton; 1 step great granddaughter, Kyrie; 2 brothers: Jim (Jeanne) Rethwisch of Frazee, and Bill (EvaJean) Rethwisch of Janesville, WI; along with many nieces and nephews.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michelle Rethwisch; 2 brothers: Donald and Harold; and niece, Nancy Rethwisch.
