Graveside services for Vera E. "Sis" Brooker, 95, Vergas, MN will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 12 p.m., at the Vergas Village Cemetery in Vergas, MN. Vera died at the Frazee Care Center on January 19, 2009.
Vera E. "Sis" Chaffee, daughter of Clifford D. and Emma (Harthun) Chaffee, was born July 31, 1913, in Vergas, MN. She attended school in Vergas; graduating from Frazee High School in 1930. She attended St. John's Hospital Nursing School in St. Paul, MN, graduating in 1933. She worked briefly as a hospital nurse and on June 25, 1936, she married Andrew F. "Brook" Brooker. The couple lived in St. Paul from 1936 to 1938. In 1938, they moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, where they had several businesses. After retirement, they made their home in Sarasota, FL and spent summers at their cottage on Rose Lake near Vergas. Brook passed away October 23, 1975. Sis lived for a time at Briarwood in Perham, MN, and later moved to the Vergas Assisted Living and the Frazee Care Center.
Sis is survived by one son, Andrew (Louise) Brooker, MD. of Amarillo, TX, and one granddaughter Allison.
