Todd D. Bunkowski, age 59, of Vergas, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at St. Mary's Essentia Health Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2015, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Vergas, MN. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2015, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas, MN with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Todd was born January 11, 1956, in Fergus Falls, MN, the 2nd of 5 children born to Don and Janette (Glawe) Bunkowski. Todd grew up in Vergas, MN, graduating from Frazee-Vergas High School with the class of 1974. Todd married Cindy Hemphill at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas, on May 6, 1978. The couple had 2 children: Casey and Tony.
During his life, Todd had several jobs, starting out at Land-O-Lakes in Lake City, MN, then Perham. He worked with good friend, Dave Blanchard, doing concrete work. He also farmed with his Dad for a number of years. Todd worked in the oil fields in Williston, ND; along with working at a number of dairy farms. Most recently, Todd enjoyed collecting various and rare items and could easily be deemed an "American Picker". During his years collecting, he enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with all he came in contact with along the way. Todd was a visitor by nature making several daily stops in town to see and visit with friends. His presence and easy banter will be missed by all who knew him.
Todd met Margaret Garcia in 2004 and the two spent many happy years together. Todd had a love for animals and cared for many. He also loved to cut wood and did so every season of the year. He also spent time fishing with family and friends and it seemed he enjoyed the comradery it brought as much as the fishing itself. Todd was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas.
Todd is survived by his parents: Don and Janette Bunkowski of Vergas; 2 children: Casey (Gabrielle) Bunkowski of Henning, MN, and Tony (Tanja) Bunkowski of Mandan, ND; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Terry (Julie) Bunkowski of Sartell, MN, Tom (Karen) Bunkowski of Vergas, and Scott (Karen) Bunkowski of Fountain City, WI; 1 sister, Jodi Kako of Menahga, MN; several nieces and nephews; 1 aunt, Leola Ferber of Detroit Lakes; and 1 uncle, Clyde Glawe of Vergas; dearest friend, Margaret Garcia of Frazee; her 4 children: Melanie (Christopher) Weiland; Michelle (Martin) Lacoursiere, Meranda (Rick) Lelonek and Chad (Dallas Dinnan) Childress; along with their 19 children and 1 grandchild. Todd is also survived by several other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
