Susan Turnbull

Susan “Susie” Kay Turnbull, age 75, of Frazee, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Mass Burial Service will be held 2:00pm, Monday, May 18, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Frazee. Public can attend following distancing guidelines. Mass will take place at the cemetery alter starting at 2:00, please bring your lawn chair.

Susan was born January 3, 1945, in Tenstrike, MN to Sam and Irene (Porter) Benson. Susan was 1 of 7 children, attended Wilton Country School for her elementary years and went to Bemidji High School through her junior year. Then her family moved to Frazee and she graduated with the class of 1962 at Frazee High School. Susan worked at her family owned businesses: Frazee Hotel and Benson’s Café on main street.

Susan married DuWayne “Duke” Turnbull on October 19, 1963, at Frazee Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Frazee and were blessed with 3 children: Abby, Rita, and Myles. Susan worked at the Frazee Swift Plant, Arctic Cat as a Supervisor, Frazee Care Center, Day Care Provider and House Cleaner for many.

Susie enjoyed playing cards, sewing, puzzles, fishing, snowmobiling, camping and bonfires. Her trip to Yellowstone, hunting antelope in Wyoming, and hunting elk in Colorado were wonderful memories. Her special family activities were flying kites on Easter and cooking for family gatherings. She also loved the Christmas season; the shopping, decorating and cookie baking day.

Someone once said, “The Turnbull dining room table was the most used table in Becker County.” Susie always had the coffee pot on and food ready to serve. Susie’s most precious times were when all the family gathered together and her wish is that everyone stay in touch and continue family gatherings.

Susie is survived by her husband of 57 years, DuWayne “Duke”; children: Abby (Jim) Anderson of Lake Park, MN; Rita (Terry) Rousu of Audubon, MN; Myles (Valerie) Turnbull of Frazee, MN; 8 grandchildren: Brianna, Joe, Matt, Jake, Kori, Chelsie, Callie, and Charles; 17 great-grandchildren: Ellie, Riley, Brandon, Bradley, Danielle, Clayton, Jordyn, Brandi, Zachary, Zoey, Zeeva, Lilly, Luccah, Xavier, Addie, Ashton, and Liam; brothers & sisters: Betty Benson of Detroit Lakes; Jay Benson of Becida; Irma Sonnenberg of Vergas; and JoAnne Cichy of Moorhead.

Preceding Susie in death were her parents, Sam & Irene Benson; brother: Chet Benson; sister: Sara O’Grady; great-granddaughter: Autumn Breeze; In-laws: Bertha & Charles Turnbull; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Robert Turnbull, Donna and Lawrence Hanson, Carol Benson, and Harvey Sonnenberg.
