Ruth Marie Rosentreter, age 98, life-long Vergas resident, passed away peacefully at Diamond Willow in Detroit Lakes under the care of Red River Valley Hospice on Friday, October 7, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be made at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery next to her husband, Alvin. Furey Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. www.fureyfh.com.
Ruth was born October 3, 1918, at home in rural Vergas to Adolph and Ida (Neu) Glawe. Ruth grew up on the family farm in rural Vergas where she attended country school. She attended Detroit Lakes High School. She then attended Moorhead State Teacher's College where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at several country schools.
She married Alvin Rosentreter on June 15, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. The couple purchased a farm in Candor Township where they lived until the time of Alvin's passing. Ruth continued teaching for several years until she stayed home to raise their 5 children: Judy, Rodney, Randy, Gary, and Wayne. Ruth enjoyed helping on the farm and tending her flower gardens. She enjoyed canning and was known for her dill pickles. She was a great bread baker and the family enjoyed home-made Carmel rolls every Sunday morning.
Ruth and Alvin enjoyed dancing, fishing, traveling and spending time with their family.
Ruth was very active at St. John's Lutheran Church where she served as the Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years. She also spent countless hours sewing quilts with the lady's group. She also sang in the church choir and served in various church groups.
Ruth is survived by 5 children: Judy (Victor) Johnson of New England, ND, Rodney (Kathie) of Vergas, Randy of Vergas, Gary (Ailene) of Lake Park, MN, and Wayne (Merly) of Vergas; 4 grandchildren: Beth (Ryan) Shern of West Fargo, ND, Erika (Bobby) Kubas, of Belfield, ND, Kyle (Jess) Johnson of New England, ND and April Rosentreter of Northampton, MA; 7 great grandchildren: Annika Evelyn Shern, Hannah Ruth Shern, Conner Kubas, Jaden Kubas, Matthew Kubas, Coven Johnson and Everly Johnson; 1 sister, Charlotte Buehler of Detroit Lakes; 1 brother, Alvin Glawe of Vergas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Ruth in death were her husband, Alvin; and 2 brothers: Raymond Glawe and Norman Glawe.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
