Russell W. Richter, 53, Vergas, MN, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his parent's home, under the care of hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Russell W. Richter was born on February 20, 1956, in Perham, MN, to Ralph and Wilma Richter. He attended District 98 Country School, finishing grade school through high school in Perham and graduated in 1974. After high school he attended Floriculture School in Eden Prairie, MN. Russell was employed by Bergen's Greenhouse in Detroit Lakes, MN for many years. He later opened Field Stone Gardens in Frazee, MN along with co-owner Diane Trieglaff. Because of health reasons, they closed Field Stone Gardens in 2006. The last two summers he spent working at Crossroads Garden Center in Vergas. He enjoyed the many wonderful friends that he made throughout the years. These friends made his life complete.
Russell is survived by his parents, Ralph and Wilma Richter; one brother Ron (Tammy) Richter of Vergas, MN; one sister Cheryl Richter of Montesano, WA; a niece Jamie Richter and nephews Cody Richter and Hayden Wallace.
Funeral services for Russell will be Friday, June 12, 2009, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake, rural Vergas, MN, with Reverend Robert Hinckley officiating. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake on Thursday, June 11, 2009, from 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service on Friday.
