Ridge Joseph Scolley was born on March 10, 2010 in San Diego, Ca. He spent his first 5 years with family there. In 2016, Ridge moved to Detroit Lakes, MN with his family, where he attended Rossman Elementary. He then moved to Rose Lake in Frazee, MN in 2019. Ridge was a 3rd grader at Frazee Elementary. He overcame many obstacles in his life including a stroke he suffered at birth and a kidney surgery at age 7 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He loved to wrestle, play video games, boating and fishing with family, planting his family garden, and being a typical, active 9 year old. Any activity that had to do with water, he was ready for it! He attended camp at Camp Cherith every year, which he looked forward to all year. His recent love was for basketball. He had just started learning about the game and would practice dribbling all over the house. He loved the LA Lakers, especially Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. On the evening of March 7, 2020, Ridge and his family were at a cousin’s house and he and his cousins were playing basketball in their indoor gym. Ridge lost his balance, and hit his head. He was life flighted to Sanford hospital in Fargo, where it was determined he would not recover from his injuries. His family made the decision, based on knowing Ridge would want to help others, and donated his organs. He has already saved 4 lives, including a 6 year old boy.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Shannon Scolley; sister and brother Clara and Troy Scolley. His aunt and uncle, Matt and Stacey Morris, and cousins, Chelsea and Chase Morris. Also many countless Courneya aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents, Cathy (Courneya) Scott and John Scott.
Due to Covid, memorial services were postponed. We are relieved to announce the date to celebrate this amazing boy: Public Outdoor Memorial Service will be Sunday, Sept. 13 at 2pm. With a special visitation planned before from 1pm-2pm. A special basketball tribute activity will be at 1:30pm, so don’t miss it!
