Pastor E.R. Wippich , age 78, of Vergas, MN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 10, 2011 at his home in Vergas with his wife at his side. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake with a prayer service to be held at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A luncheon will be hosted at the Vergas Community Center following the service for all to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Jesus Little Lambs Preschool, Lutheran Island Camp, and St. Paul's Lutheran School, Perham.
Ellsworth R. Wippich was born March 11, 1932 in Sauk Rapids, MN to Fred and Marian (Spaude) Wippich. He grew up in St. Paul, MN. He served as principal and teacher at Wolsey, SD. While there, he met the love of his life, Lois Krause. They were married in Morristown, MN on July 20, 1958. Their union was blessed with 5 children: Rachel (Dale) Splettstoeszer of Waconia, MN, Joel (Jenewa) Wippich of Tacoma, WA, Miriam Smith (Alan-deceased) of Vergas, MN, Priscilla (Scott) Orvik of Dent, MN and Naomi (Mike) Kawlewski of Vergas, MN; 14 grandchildren: Tiffany, Stephanie, Jessica, and Angela Splettsoteszer, Jaan and Johann Wippich, Philip Bailey, Samuel, Caleb, Mikayla, and Abigail Orvik, and Nathan and Elayna Kawlewski.
After teaching at Fairmont, MN, Ellsworth answered God's call to be a Pastor and enrolled at Concordia Theological Seminary at Springfield, IL in 1967. He served as vicar at Hannibal, MO. In 1971, he graduated from Springfield, IL and accepted a call to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lidgerwood, ND and Zion Lutheran, Claire City, SD. In 1976, he accepted a call to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Courtland, MN. In 1980, he accepted the call to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas, MN. In 1997, he semi-retired to vacancy pastor of St. John's, Height of Land, MN. In 2006, he fully retired from active preaching. He greatly loved his family, grandchildren, and friends.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Entering heaven before him were his parents, a son-in-law, a sister, two sisters-in-law, and a brother.
