Myrel John Schermerhorn, age 17, of Frazee, MN, passed away Monday, December 12, 2011, at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family and friends.
Funeral mass will be held 12 noon, Friday, December 16, 2011, in the Frazee High School Gym. Interment will be made in Senjen Cemetery in Rochert, MN. Lunch will be served at the school following the service. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee, from 3-6:30 p.m., with a rosary to take place at 6:30 p.m. and prayer service to follow. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service at the Frazee High School on Friday.
Myrel was born October 20, 1994, at St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was the 5th of 6 children born to Brian and Mary (Schutz) Schermerhorn. He was baptized on November 19, 1994, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He grew up in rural Frazee, MN, and was a junior at Frazee High School.
Myrel's passion was wrestling and working out and he was a well respected member of the Frazee Hornets wrestling team. He was a fierce competitor and his motto was "Beast Mode". Myrel also had a great love for his family, his friends and his two dogs. He showed kindness and compassion towards all, and his friendly smile will be missed by many.
Myrel had a firm belief in the Lord and was active in church. He was currently a confirmation student at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents; 4 siblings: Daniel (Danielle), Leah, Jake & Isaac; his god-parents: Roger & Tara Schermerhorn; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and his 2 dogs, Sadie & Sassy.
Myrel was preceded in death by his sister, Jenna Faye; paternal grandparents: Myrel & Marie Schermerhorn; his maternal grandparents: Leonard & Ethel Schutz; uncle, Steve Schutz; and cousin, Scott "Shorty" Schermerhorn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Youth, 202 W. Maple Ave., Frazee, MN 56544.
