Ardis "Mickey" Marie was born April 4, 1933, in Glyndon, MN, one of two daughters born to John and Clara (Waltemate) Langenfeld. Mickey grew up in Frazee where she attended country school near Height Of Land, later attending Frazee High School, graduating with the class of 1951.
Following high school, Mickey moved to Fargo where she attended Business College. She married Willard Newling November 21, 1954, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. The couple lived in Frazee and had 4 children: Glen, Lori, Tracey and Paul. During her years in Frazee, Mickey worked at various area businesses, spending many years working as the secretary at the Frazee Care Center. In 1969, Mickey and Willard bought a 40 acre hobby farm just east of Frazee. They spent several years there where Mickey enjoyed gardening and caring for her children. Her life was saddened with the passing of Willard on April 20, 1973. In 1975, Mickey and her kids sold the farm and moved to a home nearby. Mickey met Walt Wothe and the couple married May 9, 1981. The couple moved to town just a few years later. Throughout her life, Mickey enjoyed gardening and watching the many birds that visited the feeders just outside her windows. She was an excellent cook and baker. Some of the family favorites were her delicious home-made Mac n' cheese and potato salad, and the family agrees she never served a bad meal. Walt and Mickey took to collecting an extraordinary snow village that was displayed and visited by many each year.
On June 24, 1995, Mickey endured the loss of her husband Walt. She continued to live in town, where she enjoyed the many visits and daily phone calls from her family. She enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's activities. She loved to see her grandkids smile and several traditions were carried out during each visit and those memories of grandma will be cherished forever.
Mickey was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, LWML, the local Widow's group, Homemaker's group, and remained active in many of the community activities. She will be dearly missed by many.
Mickey is survived by her 4 children: Glen (Teresa) Newling of Frazee, Lori (Tim) Weeding of Menahga, Tracey (Darryl) Chizlett of Littleton, CO, and Paul Newling of Frazee; 7 grandchildren: Nicole Newling, Brenton (Tina) Newling, Tyler (Erin) Newling, Lynnsie (Spencer) Johnson, Chelsie Weeding, Will and Ben Chizlett; great grandchildren: Noah, Naomi & Nevin Newling-Hawkins and Dominic, Mason, Rylie and Hadley Newling; brother-in-law, Rod (Caren) Newling of Garrison, MN; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mickey in death were her parents; husband, Willard Newling; husband, Walt Wothe; an infant grandson; and her sister, Gloria "Cheech" Shannon.
