Michael James Niemann, age 62, of Wasilla, Alaska passed away on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 in Alaska. Michael was born November 12, 1954 to Vernon and Carolyn (Trierweiler) Niemann.
Michael grew up in Frazee, MN where he attended grade school and high school. After graduating from Frazee High School, he went to work for Burlington Railroad. In October of 1973, Mike was united in marriage to Deborah Thorsvig and together they had one son, Keith Niemann. Michael then started a logging company with his father, Vernon. He loved being out in the woods. From there, he held jobs in the outdoor industry. This gave him the opportunity to travel across the United States and Canada.
Michael loved hunting and fishing. With all of his travels, he fell in love with Alaska. He worked with the Alaska Moose Federation and was a member of a snow machine club known as the Alaska Track Association. He loved the scenery and the people he came in contact with while living in Alaska. He was currently employed at CAC Plastics and Fiberglass.
He is survived by his son, Keith (Amber) Niemann of Grand Rapids, MN, two grandchildren, Callie and Stefani, one brother, Jeff (Joan) Niemann of Vergas, MN, one sister, Patty Berg, of Wadena, MN, one aunt, four uncles, two nieces, three nephews, along with several cousins.
Michael was preceded into death by his parents, Vernon and Carolyn Niemann, and grandparents Art and Emma Niemann and Leo and Irene Trierweiler.
A memorial service for Michael Niemann will be held at the Furey Funeral Home on February 24th, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 pm.
