Melvin Marvin Schultz, 91, of Vergas, stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 16, 2025.
Melvin was born on November 15, 1933 to Ernest and Olga Schultz (Kratzke) in rural Vergas. Melvin attended elementary school in Vergas, and High School in Frazee. He was drafted into the army and served for two years.
Melvin worked for the Vergas Creamery and continued his career in the dairy industry as a Fieldman with AMPI. He worked for AMPI in Deer Creek and Pelican Rapids. He semi-retired at age 65, but continued to work for AMPI part-time for an additional twelve years.
Melvin was united in marriage in 1962 to Carol Frank. Their union was blessed with five children, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Melvin had a passion for music. For many years, he was a guitar player for a country western band that performed for local dances. He also shared his musical talent with his family and church, and he happily brought the joy of music to local nursing home residents in his later years.
Fishing and hunting were great joys to him from his youth. He spent many hours catching sunfish with family and enjoying a fish fry afterward. Being outside in God’s creation was one of his favorite past times. His grandchildren fondly remember the many tractor rides and apple picnics.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kermit, and brother-in-law LeRoy Kicker. He is survived by his wife Carol, and children: Annette (Tim Rice), Deborah (Chris Brenk), Kathleen (Joe Mickelson), Mark Schultz, and Daniel (Val) Schultz. Grandchildren: Jared Rice, Lindsey Wolff, Zoe Bruininga (Kaleb), Caleb Rice (Joanna), Danielle (Tom) Stolee, Hannah (Luke) Halbakken, Brandon Mickelson, Tarrin (Alex) Lindsay, Gavin Mickelson, Austen Schultz (Hanna), and Mesa Schultz. Sisters Ardyce Kicker and Darlene (Orville) Carlisle, and sister-in-law Marie Schultz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christian Fellowship Church (Detroit Lakes) on Friday, March 28, at 11:00. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Gideons, an organization that Melvin felt strongly about.
