Melvin Rosentreter

June 21, 1937 — January 8, 2014

Melvin Arthur Rosentreter, age 76, life-long Vergas, MN, resident, passed away peacefully at Perham Living on January 8, 2014.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake, Vergas, MN. Interment will be made in St. Paul's Loon Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7:30 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake with a prayer service to take place at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour to the service at the church on Monday.

Melvin was born June 21, 1937, at home in Dora Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Emil and Erna (Zitzow) Rosentreter. Melvin grew up in rural Vergas attending District #151 Country School through the 9th grade. Following his father's passing, Melvin remained home to help on the family farm.

Melvin was united in marriage to Donna Stebbins on September 27, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Dent, MN. After they were married, Melvin and Donna took over the care of Melvin's family resort, Haven Hill Resort on Loon Lake which has been in business since 1918 and remains open today. Melvin and Donna raised 3 daughters: Tammy, Cheryl and Lori.

When Melvin was not busy on the farm, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobiling with family and friends, and driving around the area in his old red pick-up. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout the years, Melvin served on various community boards. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Loon Lake.

Melvin will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Donna of Vergas; 3 daughters: Tammy (John) Schultz of Vergas, Cheryl Rosentreter of Geneva, Ill., and Lori (Terry) Hoffman of Vergas; 9 grandchildren: Jessica (Rich) Teske, Jacob (Ashley) Schultz, Logan (fiancAC., Alyssa) Schultz, Bradley Bares, Brittany Bares, Nathan Hoffman, Jena Hoffman, Melissa Hoffman, and Austin Hoffman; 2 great grandchildren: Isabella Schultz and Emerson Schultz; 1 sister, Betty Glawe of Vergas; 1 brother, Benny (Lois) Rosentreter of Lindstrom, MN; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Rosentreter and Jane Rosentreter; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Melvin in death were his parents and 7 siblings.

In lieu of thank you notes being sent, a donation will be made to the Vergas Rescue Squad.
