Marvin E. Sandau, age 84, life-long Vergas, MN resident, passed away under the care of Red River Valley Hospice, Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Frazee Care Center. A private family service will take place. Furey Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Www.fureyfh.com.
Marvin was born at home in Vergas on March 6, 1929, the 3rd of 4 sons born to Edward and Elsie (Bischoff) Sandau. He grew up in Vergas and attended District #98 country school through the 8th grade. He was drafted to the United States Army in 1951 where he served his country for 2 years, being discharged in March of 1953. He then returned to Vergas where he took a construction job in Pelican Rapids building a school.
Marvin married Mildred Bruhn on July 28, 1956. The couple raised two sons: Keith and Lance. Marvin then went to work for the Vergas Oil Company which he became part owner in. He retired in 1981. His life was saddened by the death of his wife, Mildred in 1985, his brother, Elmer in 1985 and brother, Elden in 2008.
He enjoyed hunting and spending time at the deer shack in Aitkin County.
Marvin is survived by two sons: Keith of Vergas and Lance of Fergus Falls; brother, Floyd of Vergas; sister-in-law, Esther Sandau of Alexandria, MN; 1 nephew, Michael (Kay) Sandau; and 1 niece, Michelle (Nick) Torberg.
Preceding Marvin in death were his parents; wife, Mildred; and 2 brothers: Elmer & Elden.
