Marvin Dunlap

November 27, 1940 — January 8, 2016

Marvin Eugene Dunlap, age 75, of Frazee, MN, passed away Friday, January 8, 2016, at home under the care of hospice.

A celebration of Marvin’s life will be held 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Furey Funeral Home. Furey Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  www.fureyfh.com.

Marvin was born November 27, 1940, at home in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was known to friends as Gene. He grew up in Arkansas where he met the love of his life, Margo Harris.  The couple married and Marvin was blessed to gain a step-daughter, Georgianna.  His life was saddened by Margo’s passing, just 8 years after the couple married.

Marvin moved to California where he worked in a ship yard; welding, sanding and painting ships. He then took a job as a security guard.  He retired and made his home in Detroit Lakes, MN, during the early 2000s.  He purchased his home in Frazee in 2005 where he resided until his passing.

Marvin loved music of all types, watching action and western movies, shooting pool, even having a pool table in his dining room along with tending a huge garden which took up his whole back yard. He loved to watch his garden grow, trying to grow the largest pumpkins and zucchini squash possible.

He was a genuine and honest man to whom family was very important. He liked to walk around town and visit with everyone.  He made daily trips to Walmart, even if he didn’t need much.  He was grateful for the things he had, and learned to appreciate the simple things in life.  He will be missed.

Marvin is survived by his step daughter, Georgianna Freeman of Ark.; brother, Brooks Dunlap of Cal.; sisters: Roslyn Motschenbacher of Min., Glynda Dean of Cal., Beverly Alexson or Tex., and Kathy Nelson of Wis.; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Floyd and Lorene Nelson; brothers: Dale Nelson and Kenneth Dunlap; and sister, Michelle Parish.
