LeRoy “Hattie” Adams, of Frazee, passed away on October 10, 2015, at Perham Hospital at the age of 82. The family is honoring his wishes of no memorial service.
LeRoy was born on June 12, 1933, at home in Frazee, the 10
th
child of 11 to Roy and Frances (Berger) Adams. He said his first spanking was from the nurse, Martha Wade, who delivered him. He attended school in Frazee through the eighth grade and then went to work to help support the family. While at school he pushed the girls on the merry-go-round and a friend teased him that if he was to play with girls he would get a girl’s name, hence the nickname “Hattie”.
At the age of 19 he became a milk truck driver for the Frazee Creamery. In January of 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Everglades as a third class electrician’s mate. He was honorably discharged in 1956. In June of 1955 he was united in marriage to Alice Wick. They made their home in Frazee and five years later moved to the country. After his service he returned to work for the Frazee Creamery until its closing. He also hauled cattle for Jacob’s Trucking, as a mechanic for Jacob’s Skelly Station, at Mid-Am Dairy, and H&H Trucking. He retired from truck driving in 2004 after 28 years with Daggett Truck Line. LeRoy was a member of the Frazee Fire Department for many years and after retirement still enjoyed and looked forward to helping with the pancake feeds.
LeRoy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was baptized, confirmed, and married. With the help of his family he made and installed the iron cemetery fence. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also the VFW Post 7702 of Frazee. He was a man who worked hard and would give anything to anyone. He will be missed for his wit, humor, and his knowledge.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Schaefer of Fargo, ND, Paul (Lorie) Adams of Frazee, Karen Hanson of Frazee, Keith (Vickie) Adams of Frazee, and Brian (Julie) Adams of New York Mills; a sister-in-law, Florence Jensen of Wadena; eight grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
