Kelvin "Kelly" Wischnak, a celebrated spirit and beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on December 6, 2024, in the comforting presence of family. Born on October 24, 1960, in Pelican Rapids, MN, Kelly lived a life defined by laughter and love, leaving behind a vivid legacy that will resonate for generations.
Throughout his career, Kelly pursued his passion with dedication and determination, spending countless years hauling houses, traveling across the United States to build Target stores and work on pipelines, but most notably, he made his mark as a skilled carpenter. His craftsmanship was not merely a job; it was a testament to his creativity, patience, and zest for construction.
Kelly was a one-of-a-kind individual, known for his infectious laughter that could fill any room, and his penchant for storytelling. Always armed with a joke, he had a unique ability to lift spirits and foster community among those lucky enough to know him. With a heart full of kindness, he touched the lives of many during his journey through life. His passion for simplicity led him to cherish precious moments spent with family—whether it was the thrill of a hunting trip or fishing adventure, golfing, or the joy of watching his beloved Vikings play football. Kelly approached life with humor and courage, embracing every moment with his kind-hearted nature.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters ReAnna [Theo Dalbec] Herk and Amy [Jon] Walter, and his son William Wischnak [Sarah Butler]. His grandchildren, Nolan, Kendra, Sadie, Ashton, Treven, and Liveah, were his pride and joy, gifts of happiness that he cherished beyond measure. His siblings, Michael Wischnak, Karen [Rod] Kugler, Dan Wischnak [Lucy Bauer], Kevin Wischnak, and Julie [Lyle] Jones, shared in his laughter and love, each contributing to the rich tapestry of his life.
Kelly is reunited in peace with his parents, Rudy and Elizabeth Wischnak, Ernest Wischnak, his brother Jeffrey Wischnak, along with his sister Tracey Church, and sister-in-law Susan Wischnak. He also follows his son-in-law Shane Herk, grandson Chase Butler, and uncle Melvin Wischnak, all of whom contributed to Kelly’s wisdom and charm.
A visitation will be held at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, on December 13, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
