Kathleen Shields, of Vergas, MN, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, October 29th, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 3, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Loon Lake, rural Vergas, Reverend Robert Hinckley, officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call between 5 and 8 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake with a prayer service at 5:00 PM. Visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning.
Kathleen was born November 7th, 1925 to Robert Herman and Elsie Amelia (Eidal) Fick at her parent's home in Dora Township, MN. She married her husband Robert "Bob" Shields of Greenfield, OH on September 14th, 1946 and was known and loved as "Kay" from that day on.
Kay was a member St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Loon Lake, where she played the organ for services enjoyed by multiple generations and also served as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in service to others. Kay was actively involved with the Vergas Lions and Lioness for many years.
Kay and Bob traveled extensively, living in seven states and two foreign countries. Her devotion to her husband and family was known and deeply appreciated and she leaves a lasting legacy of faith in her savior, Jesus Christ, for those she leaves behind.
She passes this life leaving behind four daughters Peggy Feldt of Moorhead, MN, Pat (Brock) Johnson of East Grand Forks, Cindy Joseph of Dent, MN, and Diane Bachleitner of Moorhead, MN, one son David Shields of Vergas, MN, one brother George (Mary Ann) Fick of Vergas, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob, brothers James and Robert, sister, Dorothy, one son, Michael, and one grandson, Devon.
Kay's family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Thomas House of Perham, MN for their years of loving care and service to Kay.
She was truly one in a million!
