Harold Neu

Harold Neu, age 95, of Perham, MN, formerly of Vergas, MN, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Perham Living.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church – Loon Lake, Vergas. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be made at St. Paul's Loon Lake Cemetery.

Harold Neu was born December 2, 1920, in Hobart Township, MN, to Fred and Louise (Kicker) Neu. He grew up on Sybil Lake Farm attending Sybil Lake School.

Harold farmed with his dad, milking cows, raising pigs, and picking rock; lots of rocks along with all the other hard work that goes along with farming.

On November 26, 1958, Harold wed Idella (Kratzke) Stender at St. Paul's Loon Lake Church. He inherited 4 step-children: Wayne, Linda, Karen and David. What a brave man! At that time, Harold and Idella took over the farm and continued to live there until 1974, retiring to Rose Lake. Harold worked for Swift's hauling baby turkeys all over in Minnesota. He retired in 1983.

After retiring from the farm, Harold really enjoyed woodworking and many of his projects ended up at the Attic Shop in Vergas. He also gave some of his projects away to family and friends.

Harold enjoyed fishing, league bowling and was a great dancer. He was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Loon Lake where he served as an usher and was a member of the cemetery board for many years.

Harold is survived by 3 step-children: Linda (Ervin) Emery; Karen (Cyril) Palubicki; and David Neu; step daughter-in-law, Bonnie Neu; 10 step grandchildren: Scott (Lori) Emery, Lori (Todd) Lofgren, Lisa Emery, Kevin (Vicky) Emery, John Schepper, Sheri (David) Barwig, Julie Ann Jimison, Mark (Sheila) Neu, Timothy (Laura) Neu, and Paul Neu; along with many step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Louise Neu; wife, Idella in 1999; step-son, Wayne Neu; and step great grandson, Wyatt Neu.
