Elmer E. Kading, 72, rural Vergas, MN, died Saturday at the Perham Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Fred Crowell, officiating. Interment will be in the Weimann Cemetery, rural Vergas.
Friends may call from 4:00 - 6:30 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, Tuesday at Furey Funeral Home in Vergas and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Elmer Edward Kading was born January 29, 1939 in Perham, MN to August and Augusta (Lang) Kading. He is a 1957 graduate of Perham High School. Following graduation, he farmed with his parents prior to serving with the National Guard for 2 years. Following his discharge, he returned to rural Vergas to farm. Elmer was united in marriage to Geraldine Heier, June 4, 1961 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Height of Land Township, rural Detroit Lakes. They farmed in Dora Township, rural Vergas and Elmer sang and played the accordion, primarily with the "Harmonaires".
Elmer enjoyed time with his grandchildren and family, fishing, hunting, country music and attending the Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag. In recent years, Elmer also enjoyed working part-time at Steve Gorentz's dairy farm.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years: Geraldine of Vergas, sons: Roger (Judy) of Detroit Lakes, Robert of Detroit Lakes, Richard (Rhonda) of Alexandria, MN, a daughter: Rhonda (Tom) Franklin of Frazee, MN, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers: Alfred (Dorothy) of Vergas and Vernon of the Twin Cities. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Rosella (Gerald) Grahn. Furey Funeral Home is serving the family.
