Elaine "Lainy" Anderson was surrounded by family as she died peacefully and took her journey to heaven on January 3, 2017.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church – Evergreen. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be made at Toad Lake Cemetery at a later date. Please leave online condolences at www.fureyfh.com.
Lainy was born on January 24, 1936 in Spruce Grove to Berger and Esther (Faaberg) Mickelson. She grew up there with a large and loving family. Lainy graduated from Frazee High School in 1954, and went on to Teachers College. She thoroughly enjoyed her years as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse.
On November 22, 1956, she married her beloved husband of 60 years, James Anderson. They settled in Toad Lake, eventually moving to Thief River Falls, where they raised their family and spent 27 years. Lainy was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she faithfully served in many capacities.
In 1992, Jim and Lainy moved back to Toad Lake. They enjoyed living alongside so many friends and relatives. There they became members of St. Paul Evergreen Church.
As "Nana", Lainy's love for children came into full bloom with the arrival of her grandchildren. Cookies, stories, and hugs were in endless abundance.
Lainy was a people person who will be remembered for her optimism and spirit of fun. She loved nothing better than acting out the story of Smørbukk, an old Norwegian folktale passed on to her by her mother. She entertained many children over the decades with her lively rendition of the story.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, showering us every day with unconditional love; a living example of grace.
A special thank you to the care team at Perham Health, who treated Lainy with compassion and tenderness.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband James, Daughter Mary Beth Buffington, son Dan Anderson, and grandchildren: Mackenzie, Billy, Keegan, and Posie; sisters: Mavis Torvinen and Peggy (Wayne) Maki; sisters-in-law: Helen Mickelson, Rosella Mickelson, Hazel Mickelson, and Delores Mickelson; brother-in-law Richard Berndt; and many nieces and nephews.
We will carry her abundant love and sweetness in our hearts forever.
