Duane Clinton Johnson was born May 22, 1942, in Steele County, North Dakota, the son of Melvin and Gladys (Nielson) Johnson. He passed away March 30, 2022, at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota.
He grew up in Steele County and as a young child his family moved to Frazee. He wrestled in high school and graduated from Frazee High School in 1960. Duane worked in construction building bridges for the Schultz-Linsey Company out of Fargo.
On January 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Judith Maunumaki at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills. To this union two children were born.
Duane and Judy lived in South Dakota and Colorado while he worked in bridge construction. They then moved to the Frazee area in 1970 and Duane began farming in Silver Leaf Township. He served on the Solid Waste Board, Feed House Board and was on the Silver Leaf Township board for 36 years. Duane was a member of the Frazee United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially enjoyed teaching all his grandchildren to play pinochle and his secret to fishing.
Duane his survived by his wife Judy Johnson; daughter Sandy (Rob) Oelfke; son: Jim Johnson; grandchildren: Jesse Oelfke, Clinton (Fiancé Brooke) Johnson, Sam Oelfke, Josie (Hunter) Anderson, Mel (Haley) Johnson; great grandchildren: Charlea Johnson and Jameson Oelfke; sisters: Darlene (Rolland) Mammenga, Doreen (Leonard) Schrandt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Melvin and Gladys Johnson.
