Donald W. Forness, 84, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Perham, MN, died Saturday, November 12 at River Pointe in Moorhead. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Pastors Bruce Noenning and Carl Nobel, officiating.
Friends may call 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday at Korsmo Funeral Home in Moorhead and at the church 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Donald Wayne Forness was born August 31, 1927 near Walcott, ND to Helmer and Olga (Wold) Forness. He was raised on a farm near Abercrombie, ND and is a 1945 graduate of Abercrombie High School. Don was united in marriage to Marilyn Czichotzki in 1952 in Detroit Lakes, MN. They made their home in Moorhead, MN and Don worked for Manchester Biscuit Co., World Book Encyclopedia and, for 28 years, the animal health division of Pfizer, Inc. In 1966, the family moved to Groton, SD and later to Mitchell, SD. Upon Don's retirement, they moved to Marion Lake near Perham, MN and wintered at New Braunfels, TX. Don and Marilyn recently moved to River Pointe in Moorhead, MN.
In addition to being a family man, Don was an avid outdoorsman, gardener, sports lover - most notably, golf - a proud Democrat, a well seasoned traveler and, finally, he never heard an Ole and Lena joke he didn't retell. Don and Marilyn cultivated life-long friends in every community in which they lived.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marilyn of Moorhead, MN, children: Craig Forness, DeNise Forness, Susan (Jan) Hartwick, Lynnea Forness, granddaughter: Kimberly (Justin) Bawek, great grandchildren: Shea Marilyn and Nolan Donald Bawek, sisters: Marilyn Hendrickson and Jeannette (Jerome "Bud") Rindahl. Brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, nephews: Mark Hendrickson and Bradley Rindahl a brother-in-law, James Hendrickson and his faithful companions, Snooze and Duke. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley. Furey Funeral Home of Frazee is serving the family.
