Darlene Buelah Chermak, age 86, of Frazee, formerly of Vergas, MN, passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Frazee Care Center.
Darlene was born September 20, 1923 in Vergas, MN to Henry and Anna (Duel) Sapp. She was raised by her parents in Vergas where she attended elementary school and graduated from Frazee High School with the class of 1938. After high school, Darlene moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked in Highland Park, Illinois. She returned to Vergas, and on November 9, 1946, she was united in marriage to Stanley Chermak at the United Methodist Church in Vergas. After marriage, she worked for Gigstead Needlewood Mink Ranch in Detroit Lakes for 4 years. The couple then moved to Ketchikan, Alaska where she worked as a telephone operator, followed by a move to St. Paul, MN where she worked sewing for 20 years at Minnesota Specialties in Minneapolis. The couple then moved back to Vergas where Darlene worked for Swift Turkey Plant in Frazee and Detroit Lakes until retiring in 1986. Darlene's life was saddened by Stanley's death on March 16, 1994. When Darlene was not busy working, she enjoyed embroidery, going to the casino in Mahnomen and also enjoyed fishing during her younger years with her husband, Stanley.
She is survived by 2 nephews: John (Jeannine) Thomas of Pagosa Springs, CO and Don Sapp of Perham; 3 nieces: Donna Walker of Orleans, CA, Sharon (Bill) Brown of Woodbine, GA and Linda (Roy) David of Oakland, CA; special friends, Marion Schattschneider of Detroit Lakes and Rena Gigstad of Detroit Lakes; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley in 1994; as well as 1 brother and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Vergas with Reverend Gary Klempke officiating. Casketbearers will be: Laurel McKenzie, Daryl McKenzie, Dennis McKenzie, Terry Maneval, Tim Maneval and Chuck Hillstrom. Donna Frank will be the organist. Congregational hymns will be: "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be made in the Vergas Village Cemetery. A luncheon will be hosted at the church following the service for all to attend. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, MN.
