Coral was born April 30, 1947, in Sturgeon Bay, WI, the 1st of 2 children born to Norman and Doris (Clewien) Western. Due to her father's profession as a cheese maker, where he developed several factories, the family moved to several different places, eventually settling in Oakes, ND. Coral attended Oakes High School, graduating with the class of 1965. Following high school, Coral went on to attend the University of North Dakota where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Paul Pinke. The couple married June 8, 1968 in Oakes, ND. After finishing college, the couple resided in Des Plains, Ill., just outside of Chicago. After 8 years there, they went in search of a smaller community where they could raise a family. They purchased Vergas Hardware in 1978 and settled into the community. Coral worked as both clerk and book keeper at the hardware store until welcoming 2 children: Megan and Jon. She enjoyed her time at home raising her family and came back to work as a book keeper for Vergas Hardware when her children started school.
Coral stayed involved in many area organizations, starting with Rainbow Girls during high school and Eastern Star for 50 years, was a member of Hannah Circle, which was a group of women who did charitable work for women and children in need, was a charter member of the Vergas Lioness Club, enjoyed knitting club with several women of the community, was a member of the Business Woman's Investment Group in Fargo, ND, participated in several bowling leagues in Frazee, along with staying active in the Vergas United Methodist Church bible study groups.
Coral's passion was cooking and entertaining and she collected a wealth of cook books over the years. She enjoyed watching the birds in the many feeders outside the house. Coral enjoyed the companionship of her cats. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Coral is survived by her husband of 47 years, Paul Pinke of Vergas; 2 children: Megan (Adam) Awender of Wahpeton, ND and Jon (Teri) Pinke of Hugo, MN; 3 grandchildren: Morgan, Lilly and Bryce; and her brother, Eric (Ann) Western of Longmont, CO.
Preceding Coral in death were her parents, Norman and Doris Western.
