Clarice Delores Mayer, 82, Burlington, WI, was joyfully united with her Savior on August 30, 2011.
Clarice was born October 10, 1928, to Fred and Augusta (nee Radel) Bartel in Frazee, MN, and led a busy childhood on the family farm. Clarice graduated from Frazee High School in 1947 and went on to business school in the Twin Cities because she believed it was important to further her education.
On March 31, 1949, Clarice married Orville "Ordie" Mayer, her high school sweetheart, in Frazee. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and later Frazee. Together they lovingly raised three beautiful daughters. Clarice and Ordie celebrated 51 years together until his passing in 2000. She then moved to Burlington, WI, to be near family.
Clarice was a dedicated and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She always kept busy taking care of her family and running her very "ship-shape" household. Her best feature was her brilliant smile which illuminated her face, especially when she talked about her grandchildren. She shared a special closeness with her sisters. The girls have remained connected to each other throughout the years, despite so many miles separating them.
Clarice's most important relationship was with her Lord Jesus whom she accepted as a young girl and has never wavered from His side. She reaffirmed her faith through Believer's Baptism at the age of 72. She loved to attend church and read her Bible daily. Her family is greatly comforted that she has gone Home to her Blessed Redeemer.
Clarice is survived by her daughters Cheryl (Gene) Johnston, Albany, OR and Lori (Jerry) Warntjes, Burlington, WI; grandchildren Shawna Fankhanel, Alameda, CA, Katie (Mike) McGowan and Michael Johnston, all of Albany, OR, Ryan Anderson, Milwaukee, WI, Erin (Ian Lois) Anderson, Christin (Justin) Milbradt, all of Burlington, WI, and Dustin (Vanessa) Warntjes, Ridgeland, MS; great-grandchildren Alexa and Carter McGowan, Hannah and Noah Johnston, Jonathan and Judah Milbradt, and Levi Warntjes; sisters Gladys (Gordon) Hendrickson, Donna Walsh, all of Spokane, WA, Millie (Bud) Johnson, Santa Clarita, CA, and Ethel (Marvin) Quade, Frazee, MN; a brother, Lowell Bartel, Fergus Falls, MN; a sister-in-law, Bev Bartel, Kenosha, WI, many special nieces and nephews; and all her friends at Arbor View Communities.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ordie, daughter Mary Mayer, grandson Jonathan Warntjes, an infant granddaughter Paula Fankhanel, brothers Kenny and Freddy Bartel and brother-in-law Joe Walsh.
A celebration of Clarice's life will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011, 11 a.m., at Furey Funeral Home in her hometown of Frazee. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
