Clarence Ziegler

Clarence Edwin Ziegler, age 88, rural Perham, MN, died peacefully at home Wednesday, February 21, 2018.

Clarence was born November 7, 1929, at home in Gorman Township to Edwin and Alvina (Mindermann) Ziegler.  He was the oldest of 5 children.  He attended District 181 Country School in Luce, MN through the 8th grade.  He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, MN.

Clarence was united in marriage to Letha Hockett on April 27, 1950, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Clarence loved his life as a farmer.  He and Lee farmed in Gorman Township their entire married life.  In 1979, they built their house on the Otter Tail River, where they lived the rest of their 67 years together.

Clarence was a town-board member for many years, served on the Frazee School Board and was BLC treasurer for a time.  Clarence enjoyed playing cards; mainly Schmier, along with ice fishing, hunting ducks, geese and deer in Minnesota.  He made numerous trips with family and friends to Montana hunting mule deer and antelope, but the highlight was shooting a bull moose in Alaska.

He is survived by 2 sons and 5 daughters: Alan (Cheryl Nelson) of Pelican Rapids, MN, Cindy (Steve Nickolauson) Ziegler of Ponsford, MN, Julie (Stephen) Bills of Hibbing, MN, Jean (David) Lein of Perham, MN, Kathleen (Bill) Mayer of Minneapolis, MN, Elaine Ziegler of Coram, MT, Richard (Mary Lynn) Ziegler of Frazee, MN; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Elinor (Bobby) Rethwisch of Frazee, MN and Edna (Merlin) Harelstad of Minneapolis, MN; 1 brother: August (Betty) Ziegler of Perham, MN; and 1 sister-in-law: Virgie Ziegler of Perham, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Letha; brother, Marlin; and a granddaughter-in-law, Nicole Ziegler.
