Casey was born November 14, 1968 in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Steve and Carole Lee (Anderson) Courneya. Casey spent much of his adult life in the military. He served in Bosnia on a peace keeping mission; Kosovo and Iraq. For nearly six years, and with the help of his military family Casey fought his most courageous battle, stage four colon cancer. He always considered it a blessing to have his military family by his side. His favorite song was, I Did It My Way, and he did. He packed a lifetime into his 48 years and knew that every day counted. Casey was a huge Vikings, Gopher, Wild and Twins fan. He loved to fish, duck hunt and deer hunt, but mostly spending time with his best friend and guardian, his English Springer Spaniel, Chet. We all considered Casey a master chef. He loved grilling and smoking meats of all kinds – making up his own recipes along the way. He loved cooking for and entertaining his family and friends.

Casey loved volunteering for the Masters Golf Tournament after his retirement and was the Volunteer of the Year in 2013. In recent years, Casey spent time volunteering at North Central Camp Cherith. Casey loved his family very much. He loved time spent with his nieces and nephews but was also very close to his military family, whom he loved with all his heart. They gave their all through his long, tough journey. Casey loved to travel! He enjoyed taking trips with family and friends to Florida, Hawaii, New York City, Germany, Alaska, several cruises, trips to Las Vegas and especially fishing trips.

Casey is survived by his parents, Steve and Carole Lee; his siblings, Liz (Dave) Verhelst; Judy Olin; Thomas (Tammy) Eidenschink; Jamie (Paul) Kvistad; Nicole (Jim) Koons; and brother and best friend, Heath; nephews and nieces, Greg Verhelst, Megan (Eric) Diekmann, Kyle Winchell, Jack and Ally Olin, Kasey and Dylan Penk, and Hunter, Payton and Brock Kvistad; great-nephew, Connor Diekmann and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Casey is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, James and Marie Anderson; paternal grandparents, Gerald and Margaret Courneya; and uncle, Michael Anderson.
