Calvin Mayfield Sr.

Calvin Charles Mayfield was born on February 1, 1933 to Charles and Lena (Bachman) Mayfield in Silverleaf Township, Becker County, MN.  He passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. He grew up in Silverleaf Township and attended country school in rural Frazee.

On September 26, 1954, Calvin was united in marriage to Delores Ellenberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gorman Township. Once married they began farming in the rural Frazee area with two cows that were given to them as a wedding gift. Calvin and Delores were blessed with eight children that they raised on their family farm: Tuttie, Cal Jr., Sue, Bill, Bob, Dennis, John, and Randy.

Calvin farmed, was a self-taught mechanic, and an electrician. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a fire warden and an active town board member. Calvin worked at Swifts in Frazee while farming for several years as well. Once he retired from farming Calvin drove school bus for Anderson Bus Company in Frazee until he retired to enjoy his hobbies of fixing farm equipment, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Calvin is survived by children: Tuttie (Jon) Davis, Cal Jr. (Kathy) Mayfield, Sue Mayfield, Bill (Karen) Mayfield, Bob (Cindy) Mayfield all of Frazee, MN, Dennis (Carrie) Mayfield of Rogers, MN, John (Treva) Mayfield of Perham, MN, Randy (Mary) Mayfield of Frazee, 23 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; brother: Ron (Shirley) Mayfield of Frazee;

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Delores; parents, Charles and Lena Mayfield, grandson: Jeremy Mayfield, brother: Donald Mayfield.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Vergas Assisted Living, Ecumen Memory Care and Red River Valley Hospice for all the loving care they gave Calvin over the past two years.

A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, MN with visitation Friday June 29th from 4-7:00 p.m., prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Saturday June 30th at 11:00 a.m., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, MN with interment at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Red River Valley Hospice.
