Bernice A. Stardig, age 94, of Vergas, MN passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, November 25, 2012.
Bernice was an only child born on April 3, 1918 to Lars and Marie Hedman. She grew up in McIntosh, MN and graduated from high school there. On June 3, 1940, Bernice married Vernon Stardig. They were married for 56 years. Vernon and Bernice lived in Middle River, MN for many years and moved to Vergas, MN in 1966. Bernice worked for J.C. Penney's in Detroit Lakes, MN until she retired in 1983.
Bernice had many interests and belonged to many organizations; Homemakers, L.W.M.L., Red Hats, Widows Club, Bone Builders, Quilting, Sewing, Cooking and Baking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon and one son Daniel.
She will be deeply missed by her 3 children: Judy Tinnes of Prior Lake, MN; Bill Stardig (Becky) of Beaver Creek; OR, Dick Stardig (Denise) of Apple Valley, MN and 6 grandchildren: Dean Tinnes (Marie) of Minneapolis, MN, Teresa Dugan (Pat) of New Hope, MN, Heidi Stay (Mike) of Minneapolis, MN, Kim Conner (Buddy), Erika Stardig and Justin Stardig of Portland, OR; and 6 great grandchildren: Casey, Amanda, Emily & Skyler Conner; Marina Tinnes and Annika Stardig; and a sister-in-law Beverly Stoe. Bernice will also be greatly missed by many friends, especially her next door neighbors, the Schoenebergers and Kathy Wouters, who were with her when she passed away.
Funeral services will be held at St. John's Church in Vergas, MN at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012. A luncheon will be served after the service. Interment service to follow at Salem Cemetery in Erskine, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Church. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
